Barang Regional Alliance has taken another significant step toward its goal of empowering the Central Coast’s Aboriginal community by submitting a ‘Statement of Claim’ to State and Commonwealth governments.
Entering into these formal agreements with government agencies will allow Barang to enact real change for members of the Central Coast Aboriginal community, and in particular, the younger generation. These agreements will foster shared decision making, facilitate direct service redesign, reinvestment and economic development according to the needs and priorities defined by the community.
Chair of Barang Regional Alliance, Kate Kelleher, said “We are eagerly awaiting acceptance of our proposed agreements. The pathway to community-led government reform requires both systemic structural and program specific reform, along with close government collaboration and we are looking forward to formalising this partnership journey.
“Our regional reform agenda will give the community a say in how their needs are funded and designed. This will ensure that the government invests in building the capability and aspirations of Aboriginal people and organisations to achieve a long-term pathway to empowerment,” she concluded.
Representing the Central Coast Aboriginal community as the peak representative body for the NSW Local Decision Making and Empowered Communities initiatives, Barang Regional Alliance functions primarily as an advocacy and regional reform change agent for the empowerment of the local Aboriginal community.
